If you are even remotely interested in the marijuana industry, then you’ve no doubt heard by now about CBD Oil. CBD oil is a new type of supplement that is making waves in the marijuana industry but not for the reasons you might think. You see, the properties of marijuana as a dry herb and CBD as oil are quite different and in many cases couldn’t be further apart. Before we get into the differences between them, let’s describe what we mean by both marijuana and CBD Oil.

What is CBD Oil Anyway?
CBD Oil is a nutrient rich extract of the hemp plant. The hemp plants are grown, the stems seeds and leaves collected, compressed and then squeezed to make an olive oil like substance. In fact, the process used to extract the oil is not dissimilar to that of olive oil extraction. What you are left with is an orange/brown oil that is suitable for ingesting either directly or by dripping onto food. There are many common brands such as Charlottes Web and Elixinol.

Contrast this with marijuana which is from the cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana is, in essence, the flower of the cannabis plant and only sprouts when conditions are right. Marijuana is the dried herb version of the plant’s flower. The most common method of ingestion in the past has been by combustion, but vaping has become more popular in recent years.

Aren’t Hemp and Marijuana Plants Similar?
Yes and no! The cannabis plant has been around for so long that there are many variants of it. Similar to how a tomato plant might grow different types of tomatoes such as Roma or Gourmet tomatoes. Plants bred for their marijuana have been engineered to produce high flower output and potency. While plants from the hemp group have been bred to have higher fiber strength and robustness. This changes the potency of the plant over many generations.

Will CBD Oil Get Me High?
Not! This is one of the main benefits of CBD Oil in general. Because it is extracted from plants with lower potency, and not harvested from the flowers of those plants. CBD Oil has zero of the psychoactive effects that marijuana has. In other words, you can’t get high on your own supply! CBD oil gives many of the anxiety reducing benefits of marijuana but without the high feeling. This is one reason why it has become so popular treating children with epilepsy. There are many CBD oil reviews online that can attest to this.

To summarize although marijuana and CBD oil are derived from the same base plant. Their chemical makeup is completely different. This is what allows CBD oil to be sold legally in many countries where marijuana is outlawed. Thanks for reading and if you have any questions leave them in the comments.
