For those new to the CBD world, choosing the best product to buy can be an incredibly overwhelming process. With the mass acceptance of CBD as an effective and safe alternative to pharmaceutical drugs, its popularity has soared.
CBD is a compound from the cannabis plant that is non-psychoactive and being used to treat medical problems such as anxiety, epilepsy, inflammation and more.
Because CBD is a safe and reliable resource for so many conditions, there has been an explosion in not only the number of companies selling CBD but also in the variety of products being offered.
We have designed a simple reference guide to help you get started on your journey to health and well-being with this exciting cannabinoid.
Check for Certificates of Analysis
First and foremost, any legitimate vendor of CBD products should either have Certificates of Analysis for laboratory testing published on their website or be willing to offer them to you upon request. These ‘CoA’s’ offer proof that thorough testing has been conducted to verify the products’ absence of common contaminants like pesticides, heavy metals, residuals solvents, and microbials.
Additionally, CoA’s identify all the various cannabinoids and terpenes present in the product, and in what amounts. Be careful, though, that the company does not merely offer COAs showing levels of cannabinoids/terpenes and nothing else. This practice is a standard method of appearing legitimate (by extending CoA’s) but excluding the essential stuff (contaminants testing).
One other reason this is so important is that the FDA hasn’t approved of CBD yet, so these companies aren’t being held accountable for the integrity of their products.
Choose Full-Spectrum, Not CBD Isolate
There is a big difference in quality between various CBD products. Perhaps the primary differentiator is CBD isolate vs. full-spectrum CBD. CBD isolate is just that – CBD, and nothing else. The reason this is seen as inferior is due to something known as ‘the entourage effect,’ wherein a multitude of cannabinoids (CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDv, THCa, etc.) have a synergy in the body that offers substantially higher therapeutic value.
CBD isolate has a very narrow dosage window that is considered effective and finding that ideal dosage can be extremely difficult. Inversely, full-spectrum CBD products are therapeutic at low, medium, and high doses – ultimately meaning that no matter how much of a full-spectrum CBD product you take, it will most likely be doing some good for you due to the array of beneficial compounds contained within.
Make Sure You Only Purchase USA Hemp
We cannot emphasize this point enough. Many, many CBD vendors source their hemp from toxic zones such as China or India, and the oils extracted from these plants are almost guaranteed to contain poisonous levels of heavy metals, pesticides, or other worrying contaminants.
We recommend searching for vendors that source U.S. grown hemp (or ideally a special cultivar of high-CBD, low THC cannabis – such as Charlotte’s Web). Favorite states like Colorado, Oregon, or Kentucky are examples of excellent sourcing choices.
If a vendor makes no mention of where they grow their hemp/cannabis, that is a major red flag. Any company that is proud of where they get their product will make sure and advertise it to you.
Actively Look for Special Offers
High-quality CBD products are often cost-prohibitive for many individuals. In fact, one of the biggest criticisms regarding CBD are the costs associated with it. One of the perks of purchasing CBD online is that it’s very competitive and almost all top brands are forced to offer discounts you can’t find in brick and mortar stores.
You can google search CBD companies that offer special pricing, discounts, and coupons. These can be many things, but most common are veterans’ discounts, reduced rates for those with chronic illnesses, and first-time customer sales.
Do Your Research
Above all else, think critically, take your time, and do your research before you decide to spend your hard-earned money with any vendor; this is your health we’re discussing. You can always do a Google search for CBD reviews to see what actual customers say about the products you’re considering buying. With a little time and effort, you are sure to find the right product for you and begin to take your life back into your own hands!
